Because, when all other attempts to come up with a plot for something fail, random ninjas are the Marvel Way.

Question for the flist, if anyone out there knows:

How dead was Elektra when the Hand brought her back? Did they retcon it so that the resurrection occured within a few hours or days of her death, or was she actually dead and buried? (I seem to recall a picture somewhere of Matt "reading" the writing on her gravestone with his fingertips, but that may or may not mean anything).

Did they actually have her body to perform various resurrection rituals on (the way they did with Echo), or did they call her up out of the ether with L33t Ninja Powers (tm)?

She was way dead and buried. Matt not only touched the tombstone, he dug her up and held her dead body because he thought maybe she wasn't dead. (He was grieving at the time, as Foggy sensibly said, and kept catching her scent in the air, so had to check if she was dead.)

The Hand went to the graveyard and dug up her body and took her to a church where they conducted their exciting rituals. They didn't actually get to finish and resurrect her, though - Matt and Stone (friend of Stick) interrupted them. Matt tried to resurrect her himself, but succeeded only in "purifying" her soul with love. He left, and Stone used his own life essence to bring her back. Matt didn't know this at the time, and thought Stone had died in the battle.

I love Marvel ^_^.

Plot bunny no. 1 involving the Hand has been modified over the course of the day and now involves Dr. Doom performing necromancy, but it's good to know that there isn't a time limit on raising the dead in Marvel-verse (i.e. they don't have to be only "mostly dead").

And the back-burnered Daredevil fic with evil clone Elektra could definately benefit from the grave-digging scene.

She was definitely not "mostly dead"!

If you have the cash, both the Frank Miller Daredevil runs have been collected in trade paperback and are definitely worth getting - it's some of the best stuff Miller has ever written, and done long before he turned into a crazed right-wing parody of himself. The first three volumes are his first run (art and writing), the last has David Mazzucchelli on art. These stories set up a great deal of what happens in the Bendis run. Volume 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785107576/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is here, Volume 2 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785107711/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is the volume with the first Elektra storyline and Volume 3 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785108025/ref=pd_sim_b_2/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is the Hand story. Born Again (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Legends-Vol-II-Again/dp/0871352974/ref=pd_sim_b_3/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is my favourite pre-Bendis storyline, even if it does have a few things that will later become major problems in Miller's writing.

There was only one dead whore per volume, in those days.

I have and love "Born Again" (which always impressed me as a comparitively good treatment of mental illness/bi-polar disorder for back in the day), but I'll have to see about getting the first three trades.
