Title: Business Negotiations
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark
Rating: Light R
Summary: Tony. Bruce. Sex.
Note: Universe fusion.

Sort of inspired by a previous Tony/Bruce fic I read a while ago, where Tony was Bruce's embittered ex. I wanted to do a sort of re-take on the idea of a Bruce/Tony fling, where it was less negative. I think this may actually be one of the top two most explicit things I've ever written, mostly because I couldn't go the traditional romance direction and talk about their feelings instead of who was doing what to whom. Note how the most explicit thing I've ever written still barely deserves an R rating.

I can promise you, Mr. Wayne, that I don't want your money or your jewelry, or to be seen with you in the Gotham Times society section. Just twenty minutes or so of your time. And your factories' manufacturing capacity, of course. )

Here is the Marvel contact info I've been able to dig up, sans my meta that's really a thinly disguised anti-Brubaker rant. For anyone who wants a reference for it that's free of me being wanky.

Ed Brubaker (Captain America, Daredevil): edbrubaker@gmail.com
Joe Quesada (editor in chief): joe@joequesada.com
Brian Michael Bendis (New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Secret Invasion, pretty much everything Avengers related):
Message board: http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/
Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/brianmichaelbendis

My attempt to dig up email addresses for J.M. Straczynski (former writer of Spider-man, current writer of Thor), Matt Fraction (Invincible Iron Man), and Daniel & Charlie Knauf (the Execute Program and Haunted arcs of volume 4 Iron Man) have so far been unsuccessful, so if anyone can contribute contact info for them, I'd be thrilled. Especially Straczynski & the Knaufs, because I'd like to send them Thor & Iron Man squee.

Title: Love Hurts: A Living Armor/Tony fanvid.
Disclaimer: The characters and situations depicted herein belong to Stan Lee and Marvel comics. The song used belongs to SoftCell. No profit is being made off of this fan-created work.
Summary: The Armor says it loves you, but the bruises say otherwise, don't they, Tony?
Note: My first ever attempt at a vid that I'm actually showing to people. Made in Windows Moviemaker, with all the technical amateurishness that implies (OMG, do you know how hard it is to cut on the beat in this application?).

(Click here to download vid from megaupload.)

You do not want to know the lengths I had to go to to upload this thing (seriously, I'm stuck with dial-up internet at home now, having moved out of the grad school appartment, and can only download and upload things via leeching off some neighbour's wireless that I can only access if I sit outside at the very end of the driveway with the laptop on battery power -- coincidentally also the only place in the vicinity of the house where cell phones work).

Because I had to take a break from writing about mapping metadata sets and the Australian records continuum...

So, if you're here, you've probably seen the Iron Man movie, which I think we can all agree is one of the most kick-ass comicbook movies ever made.

To start with, some longish movie reviews from fans familiar with the comics, to give you a perspective on the movie-as-adaptation-of-the-comics as well the movie-on-its-own-merits:

[livejournal.com profile] puritybrown reviews the film.
[livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon squees about the armor and reviews the film.
[livejournal.com profile] dirty_diana Thinks it was awesome.
[livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills has much squee and one caveat.

The movie, however, is not the only thing out there. There are also over forty years of comicbooks, the majority of which are very similar to the movie in characterization and tone (not always something movie adaptations suceed at).

Forty-five years of comics canon in a nutshell )

Linkses!
To other people's meta.

[livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce provides a nice run down of canon!Tony and canon!Iron Man and how they compare with the movie. She has a slightly more critical/negative view of Tony than most of us who are active in the tiny little Avengers/Iron Man fandom, so her analysis is probably less biased by the unconditional Tony!Love the rest of us can't help but let color our views of canon.
[livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills has a fascinating essay on perceptions of Tony within the Marvel U that serves as a nice counterpoint to and expansion of likeadeuce's post (despite being written some six months ago), and has some extensive and in-depth discussion in the comments.
She has another interesting essay on Identity Play and Self-Worth in Iron Man.
[livejournal.com profile] schmevil discusses Tony's track record with and attitude towards women.
Various Iron Man fans at starkindustries discuss their favorite canon moments. With illustrative scans.

Iron Man is made of awesome. The armor rocked; the soundtrack rocked; RDJ, Terrance Howard, Jeff Bridges, and Gwyneth Paltrow rocked; the entire movie was more than worth driving four hours up to NYC to see it at midnight instead of waiting for tomorrow. For one thing, it meant that the entire theater was filled with comics fans. When the Stan Lee cameo occurred, it got a cheer almost as loud as the first appearance of the armor. I second everything [livejournal.com profile] puritybrown said here, but I'm also going to launch into some squee of my own.

spoilers )

Also, there is an extra scene at the end of the credits that is more than worth sitting through the entire credits for; much more substantial than your average easter-egg end-credits scene, spoiler )

The first draft for "Readjustment," the follow-up/epilogue fic to Resurrection, Reconstruction & Redemption is now finished. It was originally going to be a short, 30-page-ish one-shot.

It consists of five chapters and is 85 pages long. And the Civil War pun in the title is so obscure that no one could possibly get it, because at this point I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for Southern history in-jokes that begin with the letter "R". I don't know what we'll call a second sequel if we do one.
Inspired by Alex Ross’s promo art, and my theory that it’s Bucky in the costume (if it’s not, then to paraphrase the immortal words of Bender, “I will lose all respect for Brubaker, and punch him.” Unless it's someone evil pretending to be Cap, and Bucky has to pwn him for Steve, and possibly he tortures Tony, who won't fight back because evil!Cap looks like Steve, and... shutting up now), combined with a discussion with [livejournal.com profile] seanchai over the fact that Bucky/Tony would be really, really unfortunate, but (under those circumstances) scarily almost-plausible.

Oh my holy God, the new artist on X-Men is awesome. I swear, Scott and Gambit have never been so... well, the words "lickably gorgeous" come to mind.

And there was lots of yummy Gambit/Rogue content, so with that and the Matt/Milla scene in Daredevil (of course Matt knows how to fake one's way through a psych eval ^_^), this was the week of yummy canon het.

Though I have to confess, I'm worried about what might happen to Milla. She better by un-crazy by the end of this storylin, just as Sharon damn well better miscarry that baby, or I'll send Brubaeker angry female fan letters.

Because at this point I know that he's intentionally screwing with fans, and I find that irritating. Deliberatly screwing with the reader's expectations just so you can disappoint them/laugh mockingly belongs in post-modernism and other inferior forms of fiction, not in comics.

I am reserving the impulse to say "Fuck You, Brubaker, I'm boycotting everything you've ever touched," until 2009, because I still think there's a strong case for Steve returning for the movie.

I really want to believe that Marvel won't fuck me over permenantly; it's the perfect fandom for me in so many ways.

At least the costume is not identical, so it's not quite as disrespectful as it could be, and if when Steve comes back, I can look back at this year's stuff and enjoy the angst of Bucky trying to wear his big brother's clothes but not fitting in them.

Title: The Roughest Day 7/11
Authors: [livejournal.com profile] seanchai and [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon
Rated: PG-13
Pairings: Steve/Tony. Also, various canon ships, including Peter/MJ and Luke/Jessica/Danny.
Warnings: Some violence, and probably a little swearing, at some point.
Extra [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon warning: In this chapter, the possibility that a character might have cancer is raised. For those of you for whom this is an iron-clad squick (like [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon), rest assured, it isn't cancer, and there is no dying in this fic
Disclaimer: The characters and situations depicted herein belong to Stan Lee and Marvel comics. No profit is being made off of this derivative work. We're paid in love, people.
Summary: Steve is in a motorcycle accident, Tony catches a cold, and someone is after the New Avengers.

And again, our thanks to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel and [livejournal.com profile] tavella for the wonderful beta job.

One of the potential fandoms for yuletide is reported comics industry RPS, which is enough to almost make me want to sign up just so that I can make someone write me Bendis/Brubaker porn (I won't, though. I'll do what I do every year -- write a New Year's Resolution, which means I get a much wider range of prompt choices and no deadline).

And the thing is, I don't even want to read Bendis/Brubaker pron, because I can't read NC-17-rated RPS without my brain stalling out from embarassment and going these are real people, ew, ew, icky voyeur-stalker-vibes. I just want Bendis/Brubaker porn to exist.

Or possibly pornless Bendis/Brubaker, with Brian denying Ed sex until Captain America is back from the dead. I find this scenario scarily easy to envision.

Because I am lazy, I have not been posting links to [livejournal.com profile] seanchai and my's latest fic. (It was going to be Kitten America, but then he was black and clingy, and snuggled with the computer). So, in celebration, fic linkage:
