In Marvel news, Danny Rand is cute, Marvel Adventures Avengers continues to be adorable love (this month, we got Thor, Valhalla, and Stone Giants singing a "smiting song"), and Aunt May is still in a coma. Amazing Spiderman needs to hurry up and get to One More Day already, so we can get back to the happy, snarky Peter we all know and love.

Meanwhile, in Iron Man:

Have I mentioned lately that I hate De La Torre's art on Tony? He gets the shape of his face wrong, and I swear it's been getting worse every issue (or maybe it just seems that way, since Guice did the art for the World War Hulk tie-ins, and his Tony, while still not entirely on-model, is a little better). He can draw everyone else beautifully, from Dugan to Steve, to the backgrounds, but he can't draw Tony, and that's problematic when the title you're drawing for is Iron Man.

We open the issue with Steve coming to Tony in a dream and telling him that the Mandarin is out to get him, and that it will not be long, love, til our wedding day (seriously, the whole scene is like something out of a depressing Irish ballad, and involves Steve's face being within inches of Tony's). Tony wakes up and is all miserable. I predict that he will don a long black veil and begin wandering the moors any issue now.

Tony then goes to Nebraska to investigate the death of an intiative superhero named Gadget (another tech-user, like him). Cue lots of Tony-guilt over the fact that a cute, early-twenties girl got killed under his command (no, seriously, there are hallucinations. Wandering the moors, people, I tell you).

Meanwhile, the Mandarin has faked Maya Hansen's death and seduced her into working for him by offering her the opportunity to experiment with the Extremis. This may or may not be connected with Gadget's murder, since he plans to test the Extremis on human subjects.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what the Knaufs are going to do with Maya now. In some ways, she's you typical mad-scientist villain, but it's rare to have a woman fill that archetype.

I thought you'd appreciate this, given that you bear half responsibility for my head not exploding at the idea of Cap/Iron Man slash: Bottom picture. Tony Stark, lookin' for love. (http://www.queerclick.com/images2007/dm20070901.jpg) Picture's worksafe, but the site in general is not.
