*sighs* My family keep wanting to read A Pirate's Life (I sent them "Skin & Bones"), and so I finally, wanting to share the fruits of my labour but knowing that they are never going to be down with OT3, broke down and began producing an edited and abridged version for them that's just Will/Elizabeth (and Norrington/Mary Rose, of course). I can hear the bleeding shreds of what was once my artistic integrity wailing in pain as they shrivel and die. I mean, this is coming from the woman who refuses to read abridged books because she disapproves of them (if Alexander Dumas had wanted us to read a 400 page version of The Count of Monte Christo, he wouldn't have written a 1000+ page novel).

Fortunately for the finished product, most of the plot remains intact even when two of the relationships are changed from romance to friendship. It loses some of its emotional intensity, though, and anybody looking for it can probably still spot the subtext (as people did for the Remus/Sirius vibes in Not All Scars are Visible) because, thought I edited around the Jack/Elizabeth and Jack/Will parts, the characters still love each other in my head (and thus, somewhere deep in theirs). They just never admit it aloud for my family to read.

And now, becuase I'm bored and avoiding my History of Northern Ireland paper: 10 pairings outside my fandom(s) that I'd like to read or write if I had time (or, alternately, enough guts) )
