*sighs* My family keep wanting to read A Pirate's Life (I sent them "Skin & Bones"), and so I finally, wanting to share the fruits of my labour but knowing that they are never going to be down with OT3, broke down and began producing an edited and abridged version for them that's just Will/Elizabeth (and Norrington/Mary Rose, of course). I can hear the bleeding shreds of what was once my artistic integrity wailing in pain as they shrivel and die. I mean, this is coming from the woman who refuses to read abridged books because she disapproves of them (if Alexander Dumas had wanted us to read a 400 page version of The Count of Monte Christo, he wouldn't have written a 1000+ page novel).

Fortunately for the finished product, most of the plot remains intact even when two of the relationships are changed from romance to friendship. It loses some of its emotional intensity, though, and anybody looking for it can probably still spot the subtext (as people did for the Remus/Sirius vibes in Not All Scars are Visible) because, thought I edited around the Jack/Elizabeth and Jack/Will parts, the characters still love each other in my head (and thus, somewhere deep in theirs). They just never admit it aloud for my family to read.

And now, becuase I'm bored and avoiding my History of Northern Ireland paper: 10 pairings outside my fandom(s) that I'd like to read or write if I had time (or, alternately, enough guts).

1. Wyatt/Doc [Tombstone] Practically RPS (or at least Historical Slash), which is why I don’t write it. So far.
2. Achmed/Rhapsody [Rhapsody, Destiny, Prophecy trilogy by Elizabeth Hayden] *this one’s actually het.
3. Sharpe/Harper [Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell]
4. Elayne/Birgitte [Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan]
5. Steerforth/David [David Copperfield by Charles Dickens]
6. Jean Claude/Anita/Richard [Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake books (Preferably an AU branching off from the end of Burnt Offerings, because the books just get steadily worse after that)]
7. Call/Mosby [Lonesome Dove/Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years (the tv series, not the book)]
8. Luke Davenport/anybody [Dream Team] The boy is seriously sexy, in an underfed, circles under his eyes kind of way. Is there Dream Team slash out there, or does no one write fanfic for Irish soap operas about football teams?
9. Kovac/Carter [ER] (something set during/immediately after last year’s season finale, maybe?)
10. Ali/Lawrence [Lawrence of Arabia, one of the most subtext-filled films I’ve ever seen]

You are a woman of my own heart. I, too, refuse to read abridged novels (unless, of course, it's in my Norton anthology and I have to read it for class, and have no time to read the full novel). *g* My family doesn't even know I write fanfic, but even if they did I wouldn't show them (and most of my stuff is het, too).

It's definitely time Rhapsody/Achmed got together! Ashe bugs me so much, even though I did like him in the prologue. But yeah. Achmed rocks! *g* Was sad there was no h/c for him in the series *l* But that reminds me... I have Requiem For The Sun upstairs, waiting to be read. Have you read it? Is it any good? Does Achmed finally get the girl?

I used to be a huge WoT fan. My first forray into fantasy. But eh... since PoD, it's been sliding downhill. Elayne needs a good slapping. Or is that what you have in mind from Birgitte? *l*

It was fairly good, and Achmed and Grunthor (who is nearly as cool as Achmed, if not cooler) had some nice airtime, but sadly, Ashe still has not died a noble death. But I retain hope. If nothing else, there's the fact that he's mortal--if very long-lived--while Achmed and Rhapsody, thanks to their little trip through the centre of the earth, don't age. Eventually, they will outlive him, and then they can be together. *is not thinking evil thoughts about Achmed super-sensitive skin-web (or whatever it's called) and Rhapsody's music. Is not. Because that would be kinky & wierd*

Elayne needs a good slapping. Or is that what you have in mind from Birgitte? *l*
I don't know about slapping, but maybe some nice warder femslash would give her an attitude adjustment. Nynaeve also needs an attitude adjustment, but I can't really think of anyone outside of Lan to inflict her on.
