Arg. This has been a busy weekend of business. Yesterday at work a guy managed to ground loop an airplane (a kind of landing accident where the nose of the airplane hits the ground and the plane flips over), and we had about six different kinds of emergency vehicles out at the airfield and the entire runway closed down. Thankfully a) the people in the plane weren't hurt, b) it wasn't one of our rental planes, and c) my boss was there when it happened, so *I* didn't have to make the 911 call.

When all was said and done, I think the fireman did more damage trying to flip the plane right-side-up again than the crash did, but it was scary as all hell to watch. It was like watching a sailboat capsize; the entire plane tilted to one side, the wing hit the ground, the nose went forward, and you had just enough time to think "Oh God, it's going to flip over,"--and then it did.

Then family friends of ours came down for a visit today and we had to take them to Leonardtown for lunch (only to remember that, oops, it's Sunday, so almost every restaurant there is closed). Leonardtown, I've discovered, now has a used book store. It's one of the best kinds of used book stores, too, with bunches of little rooms all connected to each other stretching back into L-space. I now own my very own H.P. Lovecraft omnibus.

Ouch. Vehicles of any kind capsizing with people inside of them are scary, but planes especially so.

And wow, that sounds like a cool bookstore. Which Lovecraft omnibus is it? I've seen several editions.

It's called, unimaginatively enough, The Best of H.P. Lovecraft. It's published by Dell Rey and has an introduction by Robery Bloch, if that's any help.

I think I know it- it's a pretty straightforward collection of the stories, no commentary, right?
