Okay, tonight, after I made peanut soup and spoonbread for everyone for dinner (lots of fun, I love cooking), OtherLiz, Bonnie and I went to see the second X-Men movie.
Oh. My. God. The opening fight sequence with Nightcrawler was one of the coolest action sequences I've ever seen. And Nightcrawler himself was great--had the tail, the nice-guy demeanor, even the hard-core Catholicism. And the tail. Did I mention the tail?
Wolverine was as sexy as ever, and Bobby (Iceman) was very cute in a good-guy, straight arrow sort of way. The plot (which I won't detail here, spoilers, y'know) was pretty fast paced and exciting, and the twist with Jean at the end was both an unexpected and (to long time comic fans like me) nicely familiar. Let's just say that the third X movie, is there is one, will feature... Phoenix. Oh, and I really liked the way that Mystique and Magneto (who was most definately powerful and cool, in a ruthless and determined sort of way) were sort of semi-good guys for part of the story.
The only problem (and it was a major one) was the glaring absence of Gambit. One shot of "Remy Lebeau" included in a list of known mutants on a computer screen does not satisfy. Especially sine they seem to be setting Rogue up in a romance with Bobby. I swear, every time the two of them got mushy, I wanted to spit nails. When I have an OTP, I am die-hard. Rogue belongs with Remy, and no one else. Hopefully, if they make a third movie, he will be in that one.
Psersonally, if I were writting the X-3, I'd have a wild card mutant show up in the middle of the Brotherhood vs. X-Men action, not belonging to either side and confusing everyone, who hits on Rogue and causes trouble between her and Bobby 9and then throws in with the X-Men at the last minute). A wild card with a trench coat and sexy-as-hell accent.
