Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] figliaperduta's mother decided to force her to drop out of Hollins, despite the fact that she's made up all of the work she missed last term, is doing far better than she was, and really wants to stay. I'm now regretting all of the energy I wasted being polite to her last spring, when Bella and I were roommates.

Parents who place their own desire to micromanage their children's lives control their kids ahead of their children's education puzzle me.

I'm sorry to hear such a thing, because that way lies real danger. Parent who do such things are not doing their kids any favours---everyone needs to spread their wings and make mistakes. Parent who micromanage like that risk making their kids emotional cripples, anorexics (yeah---ask me how I know that one!) or worse. Very sad indeed!
