Well, the RWA's complete implosion over the past two weeks has certainly been, uh, something.
I knew conflict had been gradually brewing between the Nice White Straight Ladies who haven't changed their tastes or views since the 80s/90s and the WOC Authors/Queer Authors/Authors Who Might Be Straight&White But Who Thankfully Live In This Century, but I didn't expect it to all unravel at once in a giant fireball of wank complete with sketchy dudes running for organization office, publishers who pocket authors' royalties, thin-skinned authors who file ethics complaints over bad reviews, double-secret ethics committees formed in order to bypass the actual ethics committee, and basically every single trustworthy/decent person on the board resigning in protest.
It's petty, but I can't help but be relieved/glad that most of my favorite authors have come out on the "WTF, RWA, Y R U so racist and determined not to follow your own by-laws?" side of things.
