My three prompts for hc_bingo's March amnesty challenge were asphyxiation, loss of voice, and runaways.

Runaways:

Mean Streets by Violette
Fandom: Magnificent Seven
Rating: R
Pairing: Gen

A Modern AU where Ezra and Vin are teenager runaways. Violette always delivers on the Eza hurt/comfort and angst, and was one of the authors who got me into Magnificent Seven fandom ^_^. Vin and Ezra are possibly just a little too all-around capable and good for teenage runaways from abusive backgrounds (and Ezra's canon speech patterns don't quite match, either), but I like their bond with one another, and their initial distrust when the (adult) other Seven step in to help them.

Wednesday-Verse, by arsenic jade.
Fandom: Bandom (P!atD)
Rating: NC-17
Pairings: various
Warning for Underage prostitution, non-con/dub-con

AU where Ryan, Spencer, and Brendon are teenage prostitutes living on the streets.

If Mean Streets is the comparatively wholesome and feel-good runaway teens story, Arsenic's Wednesday Night Boys is its much darker opposite (as you'd expect from a fic that involves underage prostitution). Arsenic is a master of angst and hurt/comfort, and this fic is no exception.

There's also a MCR companion fic, Home is a Name, but it doesn't directly involve runaways or running away.

Loss of Voice:

One Foot in the Sea, by kattahj
Fandom: Once Upon A Time
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Hook/Ariel

"Lost in a magical storm, the crew of the Jolly Roger fish up a half-drowned girl from the sea." (author's summary)

The fic draws much more heavily from the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale than the Disney movies (and I think has since been Jossed by canon, but I don't care). The hurt/comfort is subtle and on the light side in this, and is mostly emotional, not physical, involving Ariel's treatment by the prince and his court (who think of her almost as some kind of pet rather than a real person, due to her lack of a voice). My favorite h/c moment doesn't directly involve Ariel's inability to speak, though, but the fact that Hook is the only one to notice that her feet hurt her when she walks.

It's still a WiP, but what exists of it so far is very good.

Sound of Silence by chenria and stealyourshiny
Fandom: Dragon Age II
Rating: None provided
Pairing: Anders/Fenris

An AU where Anders was rendered mute by Templar mistreatment during his time in the circle. Stealyourshiny is deservedly know for her Anders-centric fic, and this one is no exception - it roughly follows the events of the game, but with the significant difference of Anders' muteness (and the addition of Nathaniel), and the various changes that causes in both Ander's personal character arc and in his relationships with the other characters. One element I particularly like is the fact that the authors have Anders communicate in a form of sign language based on scouting hand signals, and that not all the other characters are able to understand it. And, of course, it's also Anders/Fenris, my favorite non-Zevran Dragon Age pairing.

A Finger on Stitched Lips, by caprizant
Fandom: Homestuck
Pairings: Kurloz/Mituna and Mituna/Latula

When he's around Kurloz, Mituna speaks for both of them. The rest of the time, they're both broken, and sometimes Mituna gets really tired of being broken.

Kurloz Makara ♦ Mituna Captor is the pairing composed entirely of loss-of-voice angst, given that Mituna basically has the alien troll version of Broca's area aphasia and Kurloz is quite literally mute (his tongue's been removed, and his mouth has been sewn shut), and that both these things are the result of the same terrible accident that only the two of them (and Kurloz's girlfriend Meulin) were present for. There's relatively little fic about the Homestuck teen!cestors, and this particular pairing is especially hard to find fic for despite being canon. Caprizant's fic is one of my favorites. (Slight warning for ableism directed toward Mituna, as well as probable mind-control/dub-con - Mituna's canonical greatly increased coherency around Kurloz is generally attributed to Kurloz's mind-control powers).

And continuing with the theme of mouths being sewn shut:

Stitch by illwynd
Fandom: Avengers movie-verse
Rating: G/PG
Pairing: Steve/Loki

"Someone has sewed Loki's mouth shut again, and for magical reasons the thread can only be removed by someone who truly cares about him. Surprisingly, the usual suspects fail." (author's summary)

You know it's good when I'm willing to rec something that's not only movie-verse, but also OTP-breaking (usually 616=One True Canon, Steve/Tony = One True Pairing for me). Despite the fic being Steve/Loki pre-slash, it's Loki and Thor's interaction here that was the real gut-punch for me.

Sentencing by living-la-vida-loki-d
Fandom: Avengers movie-verse
Rating; PG
Pairing: gen
Warning for gore

"Stitch by stitch the Silvertongue was silenced." (author's summary)

Another take on Loki's mouth being sewn shut, this time with the sewing actually taking place onscreen. This one portrays Loki's relationship with Thor as a little less fraught and more hopeful, and includes lots of nice, gory/painful detail on the stitching part.

Asphyxiation:

I'm interpreting this loosely here, to include anaphylactic shock (which causes the windpipe to swell shut) and drowning as well as choking.

Choke by INMH
Fandom: Inception
Rating: PG-13
Pairings: gen
Warning for violence

"That one time Cobb and Arthur tried strangulation in lieu of a gunshot to the head while on a job. The first time, and the only time." (author's summary)

Short and packing a punch (and also a rare Inception gen fic about Cobb and Arthur's friendship/working relationship).

Untalented and Completely Unprepared, but Giving it His Best Shot Anyway by Dasha
Fandom: SGA
Rating: roughly PG-13
Pairing: McShep

Everyone always recs this fic when reccing McShep, and it's not just because the title is awesome. It combines physical hurt/comfort for John (who has a severe allergic reaction to insect bites thanks to his Iratus bug experiences) with some major emotional hurt/comfort for Rodney, who doesn't handle John's close call at all well.

Shock by frostfire
Fandom: SGA
Rating: no rating given, but roughly PG
Pairing: gen

"Wraith," Elder Number One said, "do not eat human food; therefore, if you eat, you must be human."

I think frostfire may have been one of the first SGA authors to use Rodney's possibly-hypothetical citrus allergy for hurt/comfort purposes. Her fic is still one of the better ones out there.

Safekeeping by Xparrot
Fandom: SGA
Rating: roughly PG-to-PG-13
Pairing: gen

Getting captured by slavers is bad enough, and then Rodney eats the wrong dessert...

Written by Xparrot because, to quote her author's note, "there is not enough allergy-fic in this fandom, and there is no such thing as too much Rodney-whump," this is one of the best Rodney-was-serious-about-those-citrus-allergies fics out there. Xparrot always manages to hit that hard-to-achieve balance of whumping and woobifying characters without turning them into crystalline-orbed fragile waifs, and she keeps Rodney's obnoxious ranting firmly intact here.

Charting the Motion of the Planets by Dasha
Fandom: SGA
Rating: again roughly PG-13ish
Pairing: McShep

"On a ‘need to know’ basis, he probably needed to need to know a little more." (author's summary)

The other best Rodney-was-serious-about-those-citrus-allergies fic out there. Captured by the Genii, a desperate Rodney tries to commit suicide by eating fruit (it made total sense at the time, okay, Colonel!). That's about two minutes before Shepard rescues him. Ooops?

A Handful of Bad Luck by kenzimone
Fandom: Leverage
Rating: PG-13ish
Pairing: gen

"Five Times Eliot Spencer almost drowned (and one time he didn't)." (author's summary)

Kenzimone does both good Eliot characterization (I love how in every near-drowning instance he just picks himself right back up and keeps right on kicking ass and taking names), and a good Hardison voice, and the sensations and experience of drowning are very viscerally described.

All the Way Down by coldhope
Fandom: Homestuck
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Eridan/Equius

"Equius Zahhak is a disgusting snobbish hoofbeast fetishist with a serious sweating problem but fuck if you are going to watch the idiot straight-up drown right in front of you. It's a seadweller thing. If you are going to watch someone drown you damn well need to be the person who instigated it in the first place." (author's summary)

This fic deals as much or more with the fall-out and aftermath of drowning than the actual drowning itself. Coldhope writes a version of Eridan that is significantly more sympathtic than the canon version (this may or may not be a plus for readers depending on how strongly they dislike canon!Eridan), and does extremely clever things with seatroll anatomy. My favorite part of this fic, however, is actually Equius - he's an easy character to reduce to a joke, and coldhope takes him seriously.

Fetter, by a lovely anonymous person on the Assassin's Creed kink meme

Fandom: Assassin's Creed I
Rating: PG-ish
Pairing: Altair/Malik

Altair nearly drowns, and Malik saves him.

Did mouth to mouth exist in medieval Jerusalem? Very probably not, but I don't particularly care because there can never be enough fic where Altair drowns and Malik saves him while pretending he doesn't care (in fact, as I went looking for fic inspired by ACI's water=death glitch, I was surprised by how few I found).
