So, we've officially dropped out of the big bang, since between family stuff and both of us getting sick at various points over the past couple months and also having more than one fic in progress, we're really not going to finish Steve/Tony WWII AU fic in time. We're less than halfway through it right now, for one thing.
On the other hand, I've now seen the Captain America movie, and except for the minor quibbles of Steve was never short, damn it, he went from tall and super-skinny to tall and buff and needs moar Betsy Ross or other Golden Age female characters and needs moar Samuel L. Jackson, preferably as Sergeant Fury during WWII, why must Ult-verse cooties infect everything?, IT IS AWESOME.
I now want movie!Erskine and movie!Yinsen to be drinking buddies in awesome!mentor heaven.

Also, Howard Stark is now a major part of Captain America's origin. Very neat. I'd be much more happy about that if I wasn't afraid that Marvel will somehow do something that will make me regret it.

This is Marvel. Them doing something to make us regret it is as certain as death and taxes.
On the other hand, I loved how they showed Howard in the movie as someone who's basically the person people think movieverse!Tony is - the showmanship, the chorus girls around his flying car, the playboy attitude - except without any of the insecurities or some of the redeeming qualities. Howard's a better showman (perfect recovery from the flying car breaking down, for example) and doesn't have that edge of self-destructiveness that makes movie!Tony always seem like he's on the verge of spinning out of control, but if Tony had designed that flying car, it would have worked perfectly. (Movie Howard's obviously got some MA-verse influence, since 616!Howard was mostly a businessman rather than a scientist/engineer and also kind of seems to have had no soul).
I also like that the changes they made to movieverse!Bucky have simultaneously ensured that it will probably be a popular movieverse pairing while also ensuring that nobody writes it as a Batclan!chan-style hero/sidekick age gap pairing (which generally squick me a little).

I know tiny Steve isn't comics canon, but I think it works - it's such a huge visual change, and he's so tiny and cute - when he stepped up to try and see himself in the mirror-poster thing, people in the cinema I was at were going d'aww out loud. And I love that Peggy thinks he's adorable even when he's so much smaller than her.
