So, wait, SPN-watching people. Did Castiel seriously go dark and become a god because Dean didn't love him enough? Because that's what the internet and youtube videos with clips of the season finale are telling me, but maybe it's less "You drove me to this by not having enough faith in me, Dean. Love me like I love you! Your god commands it! LOOOVE MEEEEEE!" in context?

Do Gamble and Kripke have any desire to write for Marvel or DC some day? Because that plot would be right at home in comics.

BASICALLY! This whole season has been about Dean being an asshole to Castiel and having Cas pop in once and awhile and Dean being mad he isn't "around like he used to be god show me you love me by doing everything I ask."

And more and more Castiel has being shown to be doing shady things in order to stop the Apocalypse from happening again, but it's shown he draws the line at putting the Winchesters(DEAN!) in danger. Turns he like needs souls to power himself so he borrowed some from Crowley the King of Hell and this one time he had an angel friend stop the Titanic from being sunk using time travel so there was about 50,000 extra people walking around who were getting killed by one of the Greek Fates (Atropos) because they shouldn't exist and it turns out Catiel wanted to use these extra souls to win the War in heaven but Atropos is like "If you don't fix the timeline I'll kill your Dean" so he DID even though he's still losing. And he did it because he still loves the Winchesters so much. So that was Comic Book-y.

And then there's an episode where we see Castiel's POV of the Season and we see that he did go to Dean to help Cas win the War in Heaven because Dean was ~*~at peace~*~ and safe and whatnot so he joined up with Crowley to save the world and borrowed those souls. The idea was they would open the door to Purgatory and use those souls to help them gain power and so the whole season happened because those two where trying to open the door. And then the Winchesters catch Castiel working for Crowley (And they catch him because Castiel goes and saves them from Crowley even though he might get caught) and they are awful hypocrites about dealing with Demons and Dean and Cas breakup dramatically with teary eyes and Castiel is all I did it all for yyyoooooouuuuu And Dean is all I would have been there for you had you come to meeeeeee

And then the Finale is Castiel trying again and again to reconcile with Dean, but refusing to back down in his Plan to SAVE THEM ALLL BUT ESPECIALLY YOU DEAN. And Dean is all, manfully looking away and refusing, but looking all chocked up about it.

Then Finally Castiel is like FINE I DON"T CARE WHAT YOU THINK ANYMORE I CAN HANDLE IT WITHOUT YOUR APPROVAL. And then he betrays Crowley, opens Purgatory and ends the War in Heaven, all like he planned to and so when Dean was all like "Cas bb come back to me" Cas, high as a kite on power, is like NO I TOLD YOU DIDN'T?!?!? I TOLD YOU I COULD DO IT AND I DID SO BOW BEFORE ME AND LOVE ME.

At the end of the Castiel POV episode Dean calls Castiel "Like family, you are like a brother to me" and puts him just under Sam in importance in his life. DEAN calling someone "like a brother", putting anyone anywhere near Sam is one big I LOVE YOU in Dean speak (also Dean is in deep denial, like a brother, right).

here's the quote

Dean: Next to Sam, you and Bobby are the closest things I have to family, that you are like a brother to me. So if I am asking you not to do something, you gotta trust me, man.

and then there's theses exchanges;

Dean: When crap like this comes around we deal with it. Like we always have. What we don't do is we don't go out and make another deal with the devil.
Castiel: It sounds so simple when you say it like that. Where were you when I needed to hear it?
Dean: I was there. Where were you?

Dean: It's not too late. Dammit Cas, we can fix this!
Cas: Dean! It's not broken!

I watch the show with my friend and she 1. doesn't even like Cas that much and 2. Isn't in fandom nor a slasher and while talking about the recent episodes she just says, "But Dean loves Cas! How could he not try and save him?" and "Dean just in denial about how in love with Cas he is."

Kind of? I think it's more like Castiel went dark for own reasons, but if Dean had only known sooner, Dean's love could've totally stopped him! But Dean found out too late, and now it's all broken and tragic!

The amount of soulful looks and tearful declarations of love was staggering.
