I am a happy woman. Yesterday, I took advantage of the bank holiday (which caused classes to be cancelled) and the vast number of mid-season sales and bought myself a kickin' new pair of boots (tan suede, calf height, little fringed tassles, slight heels, so they don't hurt my feet the way flat shoes do *contemplates new boots with love*). I now have a pair of boots that actually do not look like they belong on a hooker, though my heart still belongs to my knee length black leather hooker boots with the four inch heels.

Then I bought a new skirt to go with the new boots, and only the fact that my 60 euro clothing budget had all been spent prevented me from buying a new shirt to go with the skirt. Hell, the skirt's flight suit green anyway. I can just borrow earth toned shirts from Sarah over Christmas--a quarter of her wadrobe is olive drab and brown.

Also, casting for the potential Civil War X-Men AU has been determined. The line up is as follows:

The North:
Professor Charles Xavier (at Harvard).
Reverend Eric Lenshur, abolitionist.
Captain Scott Summers, Harvard grad, Union infantry.
Lieutenent Robert Drake, Union infantry.
Sergeant Sean Cassidy, Irish immigrant, Union infantry.
Private Kurt Wagner, German immigrant, Union infantry.
Private Bishop Freeman, escaped slave, Union infantry.
Doctor Hank McCoy, Union army.
Jean Grey, nurse, Red Cross
Warren Worthington, businessman and mill owner, Southern sympathizer.
Emma Frost, Boston socialite.
Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, her ward.

The South:
Ravenna Darkholm, wealthy widow, DC socialite, and Confederate spy.
Irene Adler (aka Destinee Alais) her companion.
Marie Darkholm, Ravenna's stepdaughter, staying with:
Elizabeth Braddock, Virginia heiress, fiancee to Warren Worthington.
Ororo, called Beauty, slave in the Braddock household.
Captain Remy Lebeau, former riverboat gambler, smuggler, ect. Confederate artillery.
Lieutenent St. John Allardyce, VMI grad, Confederate artillery.
Sergeant "Wolverine" Logan, frontiersman, Confederate artillery.
Private Jubilation "Jubal" Lee, in drag/disguise, Confederate artillery.
Private Sam "Cannonball" Guthrie, Confederate artillery.
Doctor Nathaniel Essex, British born, black marketeer in Richmond, possibly a spy.

Sabertooth may show up as either a really nasty looter or a deserter at some point.

oh, man...

...X-Men and period costumes. Excellent. Might I suggest, however, making Scott a West Point grad? That way, you could stay in the Westchester (ish) area, (which would also give you some leeway with Prof. X), make sure that Scott knows some of the Confed. X-Men, and give a nod to Scott's canon military background.

Just a thought. ;)

Re: oh, man...

Oh, hey, good point. I could always make Prof. X a West Point professor, or a family friend of Scott's.

Interesting that you have Xavier and Magneto on the same side.

I dunno about Ororo as a slave, that just seems... off, to me. I mean, she was a goddess at one point! I'd see her more as an Underground Railroad type, perhaps along with Logan, and Remy as her friend who's worried that she'll get caught.

I'm still totally going to read this if you write it, though. You're such a great writer, I know it would be a great story. Plus, combining history and X-Men? Way cool.

I know, but somebody has to be a slave, and there's no rule that says she can't aid the Underground railroad from within the system. Perhaps she helps other slaves escape, while remaining behind herself. She will know Logan and Remy, though, because both of them have connections with the Braddock plantation (Remy, for example, probably travels there every time he can get leave to flirt with Rogue).

And Remy's family has smuggling connections--there might be a LeBeau cousin somewhere who's a railroad conductor.

Being from Alabama, I should probably want all the cool characters to be Confederates (we got Rogue and Gambit! Take that, Yankees!) but Logan, who's historically, y'know, Canadian, as a Confederate really feels...wrong to me. Of course, it's your story, so I'll shut up now.

I know, but if I kept him Canadian, he'd have no reason to be involved at all, and I can't do an X-Men AU without Wolverine. I'm seeing him as being from out West somewhere, the Territories or Texas. Or maybe from somewhere in the Appalachians. That way, he would still have that outdoorsman, half-wild feel.

I probably should make him a Yankee, but there's a severely limited supply of Southern mutants (I think Gambit, Rogue, Canonball, and Paige Guthrie are it) and I need some characters from south of the Mason-Dixon line. Hence my making Betsy Braddock and Pyro Virginians instead of English and Australian.

Sadly, before beginning any of this, I must first finish my extant fanfic porjects, and then get going with the intense historical research.
