While scouring lj for Snake/Otacon fic (and who on earth decided it would be a good idea to call that pairing snoticon, anyway?), I found

Pay particular attention to the section headers, for they are glorious in their sheer pretension (The emasculation of the Apollonian?" You realize you're discussing video game yaoi, right?).

Also, the comm mods tagged it with "i hate my penis," "i hate your lack of penises," "married to otacon on the astral plane."

On the plus side, the very next post on the comm was a second male comm member parodying this post, with lines like "now I shall share my super special penis perspective with you. SnakexOtacon is awesome because it's hot, but also because I can *truly understand it* thanks to my SSPP!"

...I can't come up with any good pairing names because Hal/Dave brings up entirely the wrong fandom, but I've been an anime fan in the Baltimore area far too long to take "Otacon" seriously as a codename.

That was one of the many points where I head-desked, because the character canonically nicknamed himself after anime conventions. Because he's a dorky fanboy who thought it would make him sound cool.

Yeah - and, apparently, he is named for just otaku conventions in the generic, without the namers having any knowledge of the Baltimore Otakon, which was already the best-known in the country at the time the game came out.

Which is, what, Japanese writers screwing up Americans screwing up Japanese culture? The blatant fanboy thing is actually a fun meta touch, but, *headdesk*.
