Flist. I am reading JR Ward's Lover Ahvhenged. Please save me from this book with fic recs where no one speaks in a lame, poser copy of gangsta rap slang (in a book where all the people using said "street" slang are several hundred year old white guys. I'm not sure if it's cultural appropriation, or just stupidity. Can you appropriate stereotypical speech patterns that I kind of doubt anyone actually uses quite that way in real life?).
Rec me Terribly Misjudged fics. The misjudged character getting Beat Up Real Good is optional, but appreciated. Long fics extra appreciated.
You know those fics -- the ones where character X screws up or does something that can reasonably be interpreted as bad (sometimes not very bad, like appear to be a shallow, slightly douche-y playboy a la Bruce Wayne's "Brucie" persona, and sometimes very bad, like blow up a star system or support the SHRA) and other characters are angry and betrayed and think the worst of him. Except they lack the vital information that would explain or mitigate character X's actions, like that he's undercover, or secretly Batman, or was actually trying to do X and not Y and it just backfired horribly, or has terrible angst and is secretly dying, OMG (but gets better). And then they find out the truth, usually after character X has suffered and gotten all beat up and possibly been raped by Norman Osborn or something.
Writing quality is appreciated, but not required by any means.

Just nothing that mentions Fraction brain-delation canon. Which is kind of the other, real reason I started avoiding fic.

I suggest "Splendid Night" and "The Three Favors" as following pretty closely to the outline you suggested. If, you know, you like that sort of thing.
(Bonus, she writes a Holmes who is very much a Holmes I can visualize as RDJ - youngish, very aware of his own fallibility, and given to grand romantic gestures and playacting as himself.)
(Delete & repost because I somehow got entirely the wrong link in the first one, oops.)

I have the perfect icon for this.
Otherwise, the entire fandom for the show The Sentinel.

I especially love the lemon chicken ratings, and the description of the fic where Rodney sets his arm with pencils.
