fanfic101: What 3 (or so) fandoms, genres or pairings are you reading or writing that you would have scoffed at during a more respectable (and ill-informed) period of your life? Just wondering who is in this 'ship with me ;-)
Spike/Buffy:
I was a latecomer to the Buffy bandwagon. I used to watch the show back during its first two season, but then essentially gave up tv because high school took up too much time. Thus, when presented with the idea of Spike/Buffy, I went "Whuhuh? But isn't Spike, like, evil? And isn't Angel supposed to be Buffy's One True Love?" And then I came to Ireland, and saw seasons five and six on SkyOne (an Irish tv channel) this fall. And Spike became my new shiny fandom lust object. And Spike/Buffy (I refuse to use the irritating "combined names" method of referring to ships) was so interesting, and had such a fucked up power dynamic, that it sucked me in. It's almost like slash, in a way.
RPAF:
I don't like RPF/RPS. I have no problem fantasising about the sex lives of fictional characters, be they from books, movies, or tv, but actors... biggest squick I have. Even more powerful than my incest and chanslash squicks. And then
permataform started the everybody writing Real Person Anthropomorphic Fic, which drew me in by vitrue of its sheer cracked-out-ness. So while I still won't touch Johnny/Orlando or One LoTR Actor/Any other LotR Actor, or Popslash, I will read Johnny/camera, Antonio/nail polish, and Johnny/electric fan.
Hercules, the Legendary Journeys:
Well, I haven't read much HtLJ fanfic, but I never thought I'd be reading it at all. I watched the show on a sporadic basis, spending most of the time pointing out the rampant historical inaccuracies (as opposed to when I watched Xena, and pointed out every time she and Gabrielle did something that proved that they were sleeping together), but was never a fangirl. And then I found a rec somewhere or other for When Hellmouths Collide, a Hercules/Buffy crossover. Best. Crossover. Ever. So good, in fact, that it forced me to go read evey other Hercules fic the writers had written.
