I love when wikipedia provides the perfect answer to a fic question. For RR&R, it was discovering Senator Dickstein, one of the founders of the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC, real life inspiration for HUSAC) who was found years later to have been secretly taking bribes from the Soviets. For current fic-in-progress, wikipedia just found us a real-life chemical warfare drug that causes nearly all the symptoms we want AIM's "fear toxin" to induce, and the best known antidote has side effects that essentially set up fic-after-next-fic's subplot, just as an unlooked-for bonus.
Now we just need to find a way to have Steve and Tony dance together in public, wearing tuxedoes, in something we write. Because it would be the most romantical thing ever.
