I have X-Men #200. It has Gambit on the cover. I wait with anticipation to see if any Gambit/Rogue interaction I can pretend is a Meanginful Sign of Their Deathless Love lies within.

Other comics acquired and not yet read: Daredevil, Iron Fist, Last of the Mohicans part 2 (the cover assure me that pretty art of 18th century clothing lies within), and the issue of Amazing Spider-Man I forgot to buy last week.

Marvel Adventures, my new mainstay of fluffy Avengers cuteness and Steve/Tony shippiness, continues to deliver awesomeness.

So, this issue, Steve, Tony, and co. travel to another realm, where a farming village hires them to defend them against evil raiders (who ride dinosaurs, of course). The seven Avengers sign up to fight the evil foe, teach the townspeople how to defend themselves and build fortifications, and then pwn the dinosaur-army. It's really, really obviously a Magnificent Seven shout-out, down to the part where Cap gives the "farmers are just as important as warriors" speech to a village kid.

Two of my fandoms have met, and it brings me joy. I have decided that Spiderman is JD, and that Tony is Ezra.

Have you seen Seven Samurai? I watched it a couple months ago and it kept making really want to see M7. (And it was also excellent, of course.)

Seven Samurai is Tops

Melannen,

Having seen both films, Seven Samurai it's LOTS better. It's got an awesomely energetic and comic Toshiro Mifune, and he's only one among a fine cast... And it is directed by KUROSAWAAAA!

The Magnificent Seven was an entertaining western, with a catchy music theme, but compared with Seven Samurai, it's not as good, by far (well, IMHO, anyway)

I *adored* Seven Samurai, but alas, it is over all to soon (and I say that without a *trace* of sarcasm, despite the length); M7, while it can't possibly be as good, has a TV series and decade of fanfic, which means that I could presumably wallow in it for *weeks* or *months*. Whereas I've only found one piece of Seven Samurai fic, and it was AU anyway. :P

The original movie with Steve McQueen is good, but the Mag7 of my heart will always be the tv series. In no small part because the fandom is so awesome (open AUs, thousands of ks of h/c and gen action fic, novel-length fics, one central archive, etc.). Also, I used to watch it back in high school.

I really do need to see the Kurosawa film, though. The only film of his I've seen to date is the Macbeth adaptation (catchily titled "Throne of Blood"), which has about the most awesomely creepy Lady Macbeth ever.
