[livejournal.com profile] seanchai and I have discovered that there is a small amount of Marvel fic on ff.net, including a 30,000 word avengers fic featuring USAgent. Whether or not said fic is any good is immaterial. The mere fact that it exists makes me happy. As does the existence of three-hundred-thousand word Jem and the Holograms fanfics about the Misfits. Which [livejournal.com profile] seanchai and I also found.

My money's on much of the Marvel fic being middle-of-the-road fanboy-style fanfic (decent plot, heavy on action, workman-like prose, not so great at character relationships or emotion, too much telling and not showing). It will, however, make a change from sappy Young Avengers yaoi (use of the term "yaoi" instead of "slash" very much deliberate).

Now I just have to overcome my trepidation (and fear of sucky Tony characterization and/or pairings that are not my OTPs) and read some.

Of course, being an utter hypocrite, I already went ahead and posted up my Marvel fic.

Oh DUDE, 30,000 word US Agent fic! Clearly I need to read this.

I'm not sure if *all* 30,000 words are about him, but the summary currently says that the latest chapter features him and Madeline Pryor being captured together. I really, really want it to be epic-length US Agent/Cable's Mom fic.

Are you familiar with The Shocker: Legit (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2594910/1/)? This is fanboy-central, but very well-written, and features just about every Marvel character that stepped across a Spider-Man book.

If I think of some other good Marvel fic over there, I'll let you know.

Is ff.net the best place to read this new fic of yours?

From: [identity profile] elspethdixon.livejournal.com

Not unless you like reading ff.net's special un-enlargeable sans-serif font. Everything I posted there is already up on lj and at Marvelfiction (and with prettier formatting). It just belatedly occured to me that I had about five Marvel ficlets I'd posted here that weren't listed there.

Oh my God, it's epic-length fic about B-list Spidey villains. *hugs fic to chest*

Seriously, that fic is probably my favorite Marvel fic EVER. It's so different from anything else I usually read, and totally different from what I write myself. I bow to it in awe.

Had you read it before?

You are in for a treat, then!! I just wish he'd post that final chapter already, it's been several months...

I was such a loyal reviewer that I even got mentioned in it! (In Chapter 32 - I'm the screaming fangirl...lol)

Just FYI: The writer, Max Landis, is actually John Landis' the director's son. He went by "Vank" for most of the fic and only switched to his real name near the end.

Truly Outrageous!

I was just noting the other day that Jem is making a total comeback. :)

Re: Truly Outrageous!

I announced prior to clicking on the link to the Jem page that I was totally going to cry if there wasn't cross-band femslash there. And lo, there was.

I'm so bored of Young Avengers yaoi, but your term makes me happy, because that's what it is. The Young Avengers are a great team *and there are more than two people in it*. Patriot seems to show up regularly in Captain America or Winter Soldier fics, though, and that makes me happy.

Yes, but those fics usually are Cap/Bucky fics, and I just can't get into that pairing. My brain is convinced that Bucky is Steve's little brother (of course, Tony and Maya also read like siblings to me, and they're knocking boots now, so my subtext meter isn't always reliable).

*have no icon with Winter Soldier, but do have one of Steve and Tony looking for Winter Soldier.
