Not only does faygo apparently actually exist, the faygo website was apparently designed by someone with a fondness for purple and a terminal case of ADD.

Click on the navigation button labelled "flavors" and prepare to have your eyeballs bleed.

I'm not sure what "Diet Moon Mist" flavored soda even is.

You didn't know that Faygo was a real thing? ...it's practically the most common off-brand pop you can buy, out where my cousins live.

(Okay that website is pretty egregious. I'm hoping the flash is just broken on my browser, because the alternative is that somebody, at some point, thought that was a good idea. ...on the other hand, now I know what using Gamzee's captchalogue modus would be like.)

ETA: "Moon Mist" is fake Mountain Dew. Dr. Faygo is fake Dr. Pepper. You can probably work out the rest for yourself. Except redpop. If you haven't experienced redpop yourself you can't really understand it.

Faygo was very big back in Ann Arbor. It was truly an ALL CAPS assortment of sodas.

Diet Moon Mist was citrus flavored although I preferred 60/40 which was more definitively grapefruit-and-lime. Most of the other flavors were slightly off versions of soda classics, but I agree that redpop was...special. It did taste quite red in a berry/cinnamon fashion.

There was also a blue flavor that I never did manage to associate with any natural substance. I'm not sure if Faygo even makes it any more, but I think it was supposed to be punch. Me, I believe it was actually Yoyodyne Propulsion System gear fluid.

Where my cousins live (near Dayton, Ohio) they have Faygo redpop, Big Red redpop, Barq's redpop, and various storebrands. None of them taste in any way similar! And yet people who live there seem to think they're all the same flavor. And will opject if you try to give them a red-colored carbonated beverage that isn't redpop.

...I think that eventually, humans will evolve beyond the need to associate flavors with actual natural things, and a generation will be born who unironically think that "red" "blue" and "yellow" are flavors.

It would be interesting to do a study on cultural influences on perception of flavor based on soda flavors - because I was going to say that all the colas are interchangeable, even though I can taste the difference, because at least they're all kola flavored! Except of course none of them actually have any kola in them or taste at all like real kola (and some of the odder kolas - like the yellow kolas that I think Faygo has a version of - don't taste even vaguely like coke either.)

But the redpops aren't even in the same category! Some of them are vaguely fruit-punch-cherry-ish flavored, and some of them are cream sodas with no fruity in them at all, and some of them are cheerwine/cherikee red type. And yet people from the region call them all redpop and distinguish between them and, say, Dr. Brown's or strawberry sodas.

We sell Faygo at work! The rock'n'rye cream soda is delicious, but no one can describe the additional flavor. There's the cream soda taste and then there is a something that's presumably the "rock'n'rye" and everyone just goes WHAT IS IN MY MOUTH. GIVE ME MORE. SERIOUSLY, WHAT IS THAT.

That website is evil. Oh man. I'm not sensitive to it in that way, but I think that flash scroll could potentially be a seizure trigger. Geez.

But Faygo peach. Mmm mmm good supersweet, teeth-rotting, happy memories. :D

*nods wisely*

I believe there's a conceptual relationship to that kind of mixed fruit drink everyone calls bug juice.

I always thought the other flavor was one that had had a crazy tryst with ginger ale in some Turkish bath long ago, but I never could tell what had happened between that and the eventual partnership with cream soda.
