My mother came up to NYC for Labor Day Weekend, and we went shopping at Bloomingdales (for her) and the Apple store (for me). I've finally replaced my 10-year-old 1GB Sandisk mp3 player with an iPod Shuffle - it's the first i-device I've ever had, and I'm still getting used to the annoying fact that I have to use iTunes to put files on it.

We attempted to watch Anna Karenina on Saturday night (after I shot down Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which my mom wanted to see and which Seanchai and I would gladly pay money to not see), and ended up giving up about halfway through to watch The Mummy instead, after we couldn't take watching people we disliked making stupid choices any longer. (Why does Anna fall in love with Vronsky? Why? He's a complete loser whose only redeeming quality is having ridiculously pretty hair, who begins their relationship by stalking her like a creep despite her initial attempts to get him to leave her alone.) Unless the remainder of the movie magically stopped being about Anna and Cavalry Putz Vronsky and started being entirely about Levin & Kitty and Stiva & Dolly instead, I suspect it was a wise choice.

(I liked Pyotr/Pierre Bezukhov, even when he spent what felt like eons joining the surprisingly boring Masons, but Christ, I wanted to chuck Vronsky off a cliff. Perhaps he's less hate-able in the book?)
