The new York Post, which for those who aren't familiar with NYC newspapers, is basically a trashy tabloid operating under a thin (very thin) veneer of respectability, has reached a new low. Yes, even lower than the week during the height of the presidential campaign when their front page news story was all about some guy who had killed his girlfriend's cat.
Here is a political cartoon featuring a chimpanzee. Make of it what you will. (well, actually, it's a link to a NY Times story that reproduces the cartoon and provides context, i.e. that the dead chimp in the cartoon is a reference to a recent local tragedy involving a pet chimpanzee who attacked a woman and was then killed)
For those who don't want to click:
Two policemen are standing over the dead body of the chimp, which has been shot several times. One of them is telling the other that now they'll need to find someone else to write the economic stimulus bill.
( Just to give more context, the cartoon was run opposite a picture of Obama. Classy, New York Post layout people. Real classy. )
But then, they're the Post. I halfway suspect that they knew the cartoon would get this kind of a reaction and printed it on purpose just for the attention it would get them.
