Ned Kelly. Go see it now.
It's by the same guy that did Micheal Collins and The Crying Game, stars Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush (and Heath Ledger), and has nineteenth century costumes (it was the costumes combined with Orli & Geoffrey Rush that my flatmates used to convince me to see this last night instead of Once Upon a Time in Mexico). And lots of shootouts. Picture a western relocated to Australia.
I swear Orlando Bloom gets cuter with every movie he does. In Lord of the Rings, I thought he was seriously bishonen, but was too distracted by Viggio Mortenson and Sean Bean to pay him proper attention. In Pirates of the Caribbean I decided that he was far cuter with brown hair than with blond, but spent most of the film drooling shamelessly over Johnny Depp. In Ned Kelly where he was up against the nowhere-near-as-awesome-as-Depp Heath Ledger, I wanted to take him home and keep him as a pet. The little crinkle he gets between his eyebrows when his character is worried is a-fucking-dorable.
*ponders* My first night in Cork, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, & Geoffrey Rush. Two weeks ago I saw The Sin Eater starring Heath Ledger. Last night I saw Ned Kelly, starring Heath Ledger, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush, and tonight I'm seeing Once Upon a Time in Mexico starring Johnny Depp. Where there any movies produced this summer that didn't have one of those four men in them?
