I think we started writing this back in October. My hope is that we can finish in time to participate in the big bang -- if we can get another 10,000 words/ 2 chapters written by the time the sign-up deadline is due, we ought to be able to fit a 20,000 big bang fic in and still get alien!fic finished without any huge gaps in posting time.
Usually, we average around 500 words a day, but with this fic, I think we've been clocking closer to 800. Then again, I think it's also easier when you have a co-writer to help motivate you. Lots of practice at writing long fic also helps (I do much better when I have someone to make me write and also do half the work and be my built-in fic cheerleader). Once upon a time I wrote very slowly, only when inspiration struck, and generally only did one long fic per fandom. I doubt my total fic output for PotC was over 200 pages, and that's in over a year in the fandom - and I think at this point we're closing on over 1,000 pages of Steve/Tony fic over the past two years. That's, like, two-thirds of War & Peace.
