We finally have a couch. The cat is overjoyed, and has spent most of the past day curling up in the corners of it (when he hasn't been exercising his newly learned ability to open the door to the under-the-eaves storage area, a space he finds both intimidating and fascinating).

Meanwhile, I'm sore all over because I clotheslined myself on a building scaffold while running yesterday. Seriously, I ran dead into it at about mid-torso height and slammed backwards onto the sidewalk like something out of a three stooges movie. It is possibly the stupidest egregiously clumsy thing I've ever done in public.

[livejournal.com profile] seanchai and I have started watching Full Metal Alchemist as one of our nightly watching-things shows (after a long run of Starsky & Hutch, culminating in the episode where a criminal uses voodoo dolls to make them have sex, which I am not making up). Western fandom has failed to provide me with much in the way of fic, so I've been reminded of how much I like Old School yaoi fandom, doujinshis, etc. *grins* K2 company are totally my new favorite doujinshi circle, with their pretty art and men who have actual muscles and PG-13-to-R-rated sex (explicit doujinshi sex is often more laughable than hot, alas. Especially my favorite old skool doujinshi trope, the glowing cone of light!).

FMA, alas, is another example of the majority of a fandom not sharing my pairing kinks, such that I look at it and go "why does no one write [x insanely slashy pairing]?" Oh, HughesxRoy fic, why do you barely exist? Why is all the fic Roy-slash RoyxEd? More importantly, why is all the long fic RoyxEd? I want me some uke!Roy, damnit! Perferably in an epic-length piece of angst and violence-filled (but with a happy ending) melodrama where the author has done far too much research into Medieval and Renaissance alchemy.

Also, on a partially related note, wouldn't a steampunk novel where WWI was fought using alchemy be cool? Serious Paraclesian, Hemetic, Emerald Tablet-influenced alchemy, with possibly an ongoing divide in the academic alchemical community between the chemists & metallurgists and the people who worship Hermes Trismegistus? And salamanders? Like those Mercedes Lackey books about elemental magic, only, you know, grounded in actual historical research.

Most of the FMA stuff I remember reading was Roy/Ed but when I get back to Perth and can look at my bookmarks I'll see if there was anything Hughes/Roy at all hiding anywhere. :)

Most of the Hughes/Roy fic I stumbled across when I was more into FMA were back stories or flashbacks. But since I'm a Roy/Ed fan I didn't pay attention to those. ^_^a And I was almost never in the mood for Hughes fic that didn't have Gracia and/or his daughter.

...I share your Hughes/Roy love and annoyance at lack of pairing.

I remember this ("Earth, Clay, Death" by [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot) being heartbreakingly awesome.

In the shameless self-promotion department, I wrote a widely assorted stack of stuff. (Including some Roy/Ed. Sorry. But also some Hughes/Roy, though I kept meaning to write more.) Arcana Viscera spoils through the end of the series (I don't know how far in you are) but is one of the best things I've written.

Is all. Enjoy your Finally, More Angst!

psssst - in case no one's told you about the site yet - Touka Koukan (http://toukakoukan.com/) has a lot of fic in there. If you'd like I can dig up the others. Shokren has a lot of the longer, not Roy/Ed stuff at her site too (that's not TK)
