Today started out sucky (rain, rain, more rain--suddenly, I remembered that I was in the British Isles) but quickly got better. All 42 of us in the Irish Lit. program went on a "field trip" to some historic sites around Cork. First, we saw Barryscourt castle, a fifteenth/sixteenth century castle (completely restored inside), that looks much older than it really is (it has that basic square Norman keep design, and would probably be a couple centiries older if it were in England), then we went to Fota house, a Regency/Victorian era house on Fota Island, that also belonged to the Barry family (a slightly different branch, and much later). It had the most beautifully detailed plstor work, and the botanical gardens (which I didn't get to spend nearly enough time in) were amazing. There were also two southern magnolias (they could have been straight from Virginia) in the gardens behind the house, which made me unreasonably happy. To put the final perfect cap on things, we went to Ballymaloe (a farm, cooking school, nd restaraunt that is apparently famous throughout Ireland) for a free lunch. The. Best. Food. I've. Had. In. Weeks. Eating at the same table with the two St. Mary's College guys was simply a bonus (I'd almost forgotten how entertaining guys can be--plus, they're fanboys. Samples of conversation included things like: "Gambit only wears those gloves so he can grope Rogue, you know." Also, one of them--the cuter one--knows all the songs from The Little Mermaid and is actually willing to sing them in public).
I think I shall email my sister, currently eating the brilliant culinary offerings of the United States Air Force Academy, and gloat.
In other news, I have discovered reruns of 5th season Buffy. Why didn't I start watching this show before it ended? Patterson knows whereof she speaks--it rocks. And the reason it rocks (the reason other than Giles and the obvious lure anything with fangs holds for me) has horrible bleached hair, a snarky attitude, and a drop dead sexy scar in his left eyebrow. *licks scar in Spike's left eyebrow*
I've always had a taste for cocky, smartmouthed, morally ambiguous types, especially when they have angst. And his stalker-like Buffy-love is rather cute (as is he). He's like an evil puppy.
Anya and Dawn are rather entertaining as well.
Does anyone know why livejournal is now blue & white?

They've had that style up for awhile as a beta test. They finally decided to switch. There is a link on the homepage that lets you switch back if you really and truly don't like the new style (my computer doesn't really get along with it all that well so I've already switched back to the old style).
