I still love Marvel, but I hate Ed Brubaker more every month
Because at this point I know that he's intentionally screwing with fans, and I find that irritating. Deliberatly screwing with the reader's expectations just so you can disappoint them/laugh mockingly belongs in post-modernism and other inferior forms of fiction, not in comics.
I am reserving the impulse to say "Fuck You, Brubaker, I'm boycotting everything you've ever touched," until 2009, because I still think there's a strong case for Steve returning for the movie.
I really want to believe that Marvel won't fuck me over permenantly; it's the perfect fandom for me in so many ways.
At least the costume is not identical, so it's not quite as disrespectful as it could be, andif when Steve comes back, I can look back at this year's stuff and enjoy the angst of Bucky trying to wear his big brother's clothes but not fitting in them.

I want to believe Marvel will fix this whole mess, but sometimes I cannot keep the faith.
Poor Tony...he must wait until 2009? No way. Please, oh please, Steve...you must come back earlier!

Yeah, indeed, I can see that.
I remind in volume one, the crossing storyline, after Steve was very much likely dead, how Tony couldn't hold his sane and was brainwashed. That bring Tony the death.:(
#50...is still far away from now...*weeps* But it's fit. I can understand Marvel won't give us/Tony back Steve so easily.
I worried so much that Tony start drink again until his movie. But the director said his first Iron Man movie won't include alcoholic issue. So, I calmed down a little. But I am still worried. Even Tony said he doesn't drink for Steve in Captain America #30
If they kiss in CA#100, I may forgive Marvel or Ed.*grin*

On the other hand, he has the shield, which we know Bucky's got now. I think it's Bucky drawn over-muscled.

Keep the faith ;)
(Anonymous) 2007-10-13 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)Captain America has been dead a lot of times, but he came back as many: from the ice to start with, and then some... I
For what I have been reding in Brubaker's Cap, he's delivering a solid story, and a good story is my first priority... And I don't think he will keep Steve Rogers dead (even if he means to keep him absent for a while, so we can all miss him a lot): didn't him bring back Bucky? I mean... Holy Cow! no-one ever dared to actually bring him back till Brubaker brought the Winter Soldier saga! And you doubt Bru? Just wait and see...
I mean, for instance, I was heartbroken when Foggy got so badly mauled in Daredevil #82, as I thought it was the end... And then some issues later, we got him back and giving Matt a big, big hug, and both crying together out of sheer happiness, and then having that heart to heart talk at the roof.
What Brubaker isn't partial to is about spoiling a story... Which I think is the greatest level of respect to readers. He will, at most, release some details (a new uniform... a new Cap?), but I'm absolutely sure that he will surprise me (us)... and I think that it is good. We rely sometimes too much in previews and advances, but previews and advances are never (or shouldn't be) the actual thing... And the actual thing is sometimes much better than we had imagined.
P.S.: I just hope Tony is more patient this time and just doesn't clone him
