Having not seen "Tombstone" in far too many years (I can vaguely remember Val Kilmer played Doc Holliday, but after that it all gets a little too blurry) I can't comment on the characterisation. However, the story itself is absolutely gorgeous, and I enjoyed reading it. Also nice seeing some of the good old Western traditions starting to poke their heads out of the grass... must rewatch "Blazing Saddles".
But, as someone who doesn't watch that much anime, and someone who doesn't watch too many Westerns (at least, not in their undiluted version, anyway) I could recognise the genre markings for each one. Neat.
