Rec me PotC Gen fics

Okay, I got some requests for y'all.

First off, my mom, whose middle school English classes have already read all of the edited-for-content version of "A Pirate's Life," wants me to put together a selection of other Potc fanfic for them to read during "silent reading time." The problem is, just about all of the shorter PotC fic I read is OT3 or slash--frequently NC-17 slash, and there's no way in Hell I can show a thirteen year old that.

So I'd appreciate any recs for shortish (ie. not multi-chapter fics) PotC fics that are gen or Will/Elizabeth and rated somewhere from G through PG-13. Preferably ones whose writers have ljs, so I can contact them and ask if they mind having their story printed out and shown to people. Feel free to pimp your own stuff.

Also, I'm stuck for ideas on a current fanfic project, and would appreciate any suggestions for something nefarious that evil-villain-type people could do in the Yukon around 1899-1900 (at the tail end of the gold rush). Something that would attract the attention and concern of the British government.

Am too lazy to look through my memories at the moment, therefore I'll just drop you a link to [livejournal.com profile] potc_canon_fic, which might be a good place to start, although I can't say anything about the quality of work there 'cause I haven't read most of the stories posted.

Gen Fic

I did one for a Norrington Challenge awhile back--it's PG or PG-13. It's 'The Elusive Norrington' (http://www.livejournal.com/users/geek_mama_2/4793.html).

I'll look through some of my Memories and bookmarks for others after I get home from work.

I was just thinking, there are a lot of good fics that would fit your criteria on [livejournal.com profile] erinrua's recs page (http://captainjack.t35.com/FanFic.html) on her PotC website. [livejournal.com profile] firesignwriter's Fortune and Favor is there (and you can't beat her writing, for sure!), and there are quite a few other short stories by various authors--Storm Warning by Alekto; His Holiness, Captain Sparrow by Beth/CG; "Playing Games" from The Salty Tales of Jack Sparrow by Blacklabel (which is hilarious); Our Beautiful Life or I Want To Be A Pirate by Ceridwen-Amyed; Finding North, and Beads by Dee; etc. etc. etc. All are rated PG-13 or less, and there's no slash. Lots of good stories there, some on LJ, some not.

Try my own [Bad username or site: http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1117 @ livejournal.com]Darkness of Immortality. [livejournal.com profile] deralte's Good Luck (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=616). [livejournal.com profile] erinrua's Both Sides of the Glass (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1130). It's two chapters, but not terribly long. Her Horizons Lost and Found (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1409) is also very good.

Other pieces of Erin's that I haven't read yet, but I'm sure are equally good are Sea Tales (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1411) which is a collection of drabbles. And All for Love (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1410), another two-chapter piece. If she's interested in something longer, Erin's also got a 32 chapter fic The African Star (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1074) that is VERY good.

I've just started reading Geek Mama (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/authors.php?no=275)'s stuff and it's quite good as well. Most of her pieces seem to be chaptered works, although she does have a one-shot The Elusive Norrington (http://www.skyehawke.com/archive/story.php?no=1876) that might fit what you're looking for. I can't rec it as I haven't read it myself...but it doesn't look terribly long...give a skim and see if it'll work for you.

Outside of that, all I can do is point you toward [livejournal.com profile] erinrua's recs page (http://captainjack.t35.com/FanFic.html). She doesn't rec smut or slash...and everything I've picked up from there has been well above average in terms of quality of writing, characterization, and plot. She marks what's complete and provides the summary (as written by the author) plus a few words of her own on the fic.

Hope that helps!

I know I'm late, and I don't know how much this will help, The Book of Pirates (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0486413047/qid=1092892540/sr=ka-3/ref=pd_ka_3/102-1733450-9072162#top) by Howard Pyle has some nice stories. Not PotC, of course, but pirate-related.
