So that is one reason why I love (slash and yaoi) fandom. It may be imperfect, but it gave me something I couldn't get anywhere else, something I didn't even know I needed and wouldn't have known how to look for if I had.

Quoted for truth. (hugs) This whole post rings incredibly true. (Except I've not much taste for professional romance in general, gay or straight, but that's me.) Slash fandom, for all its problems, is amazingly open and accepting, and it's something to own that won't be taken away because we're not gay/straight/masculine/feminine/etc enough. Safe space, definitely not. But at least it's our space, you know? :\
