Yay, he has his shield! I figured this one out between the fierce little robber boy and their one-eyed leader. :D The thing about him giving up his red boots and gloves and helmet and feeling like he'd given part of himself away was beautiful and subtly done. I'm not sure if my favorite thing about it is the bit of Marvel homage, or the fairy-tale nature of it.
