I also hesitate a lot before reading Sam/Jack because even in fics the main body of it read like harlequin novels
I was always put off a lot of Sam/Jack by the fact that so many authors blythly ignored the fact that any relationship between them would be almost as much a violation of military regulations as Jack/Daniel. The military frowns on sleeping with people who are in your direct chain of command. (not that Jack/Daniel slashers were any better - I can buy John/Rodney on Atlantis because they're an entire galaxy away from Earth, under circumstances where people would be far more likely to let normal regulations go out the window, but I've read fics where Jack and Daniel get married in the gateroom).
Of course, some fics solved this dilemma by having Sam decide to leave the air force and give up her career for Jack. Which was, if possible, even worse.
