I didn't mind the rant at all - I've made similar ones often enough. My personal favorite flame-disguised-as-crit was the guy on ff.net who left an anonymous review on the fourth instalment of Classic-verse asking why I had to make everyone gay and whether it had ever occured to me that guys could just be friends.
The impulse to respond with "OMG, you mean there are actually people who aren't gay? Finally, I have found out where babies come from!" was really strong, but of course he logged out to leave the review, so I couldn't.
My textbook example of "getting the characters together and doing a sucky job" is still the X-Files, but making Scully/Mulder canon is actually the least of the problems that show had in its later seasons.
