This is just brilliant and so needs to be revisited. ^_^

There's about half a plot-bunny worked out for it, complete with a murder mystery plot - which is aluded to in the ficlet, if you know where to look. I'm actually surprised no one's spotted it yet.

I have about three pages worth of the longer fic typed up somewhere, I think on az_nightingale. It's mostly an excuse to use the words "space legion" over and over.
