She was definitely not "mostly dead"!

If you have the cash, both the Frank Miller Daredevil runs have been collected in trade paperback and are definitely worth getting - it's some of the best stuff Miller has ever written, and done long before he turned into a crazed right-wing parody of himself. The first three volumes are his first run (art and writing), the last has David Mazzucchelli on art. These stories set up a great deal of what happens in the Bendis run. Volume 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785107576/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is here, Volume 2 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785107711/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is the volume with the first Elektra storyline and Volume 3 (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Visionaries-Frank-Miller-Vol/dp/0785108025/ref=pd_sim_b_2/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is the Hand story. Born Again (http://www.amazon.com/Daredevil-Legends-Vol-II-Again/dp/0871352974/ref=pd_sim_b_3/104-8931980-7770307?ie=UTF8&qid=1174015442&sr=8-2) is my favourite pre-Bendis storyline, even if it does have a few things that will later become major problems in Miller's writing.
